Karen Book Rambo, LCSW
Hello, and welcome! Starting therapy can be a difficult thing to do, but my approach is one of care and acceptance without judgement. You can expect that I will be warm, compassionate, and direct. We can’t change the past, or the difficult challenges you face presently, but we can work together to understand and resolve your stressors or past trauma. We can work together to uncover long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I like to provide specific tools and give feedback in sessions, so you leave each meeting feeling like you have new ideas and strategies for handling the things that are causing you distress. As part of the therapy process, I will also help you recognize your strengths.
I use a combination of techniques including psychodynamic, insight-oriented, solution-focused, and cognitive therapy. I am certified in EMDR therapy and use this not only for helping resolve past trauma but for current struggles as well. Issues I can help you with include but are not limited to, overall stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, work-related issues, parenting concerns, life transitions, and childhood and/or other traumatic experiences.
I have over 20 years of experience working in private practice and in local County outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs. I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from The Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Duke University.I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you.
